Quick Marketing Tip: Don’t Waste the Confirmation Page

Here’s a small change that can make a big difference. Make sure you fully use valuable real estate - your confirmation page.

When someone fills out a form on your website to download content, you take them to a confirmation landing page. It says something like:

Confirmation page

Thanks for downloading (Content Name). We’ll email it to right away. Don’t see it? Check  your SPAM folder.”

Instead, think of this confirmation page as valuable real estate and spend some time crafting a thoughtful message with a secondary offer.

Spend some time thinking about it and crafting your message. Maybe you have a great webinar recorded that you’d like to invite them to watch. Why not offer a link to the webinar on your confirmation page? Even if just a handful click the link, it’s “found money.”

How to Select a B2B Marketing Agency

Criteria for Choosing a Full-Service Content Marketing Agency

That’s the name of an article that recently appeared at the Content Marketing Institute and it was written by a good friend and interviewee on Mad Marketing TV, Joe Pulizzi.

Joe’s brilliant, but I also think he missed a key point in agency selection: Their internal network of experts. It’s this network that’s the key differentiator for Find New Customers. No marketing agency today has a network like ours.

Here are the criteria they listed:

  1. Industry Content Expertise
    Do they understand you and your industry?
  2. Strategic Planning
    Can they handle the overall marketing strategy, as well as deliver on tactics?
  3. Audience Development Expertise
    Can they find and engage an audience for your content?
  4. Project Management Expertise
    The unsung hero of content marketing. Can they manage the project?
  5. Design/User Experience
    Can they handle the creative side/design too?
  6. Tactical Expertise
    They need more than just online expertise.  They need online, print and in=-person, as well as mobile.
  7. Technology Integration
    Is the agency well versed in marketing automation technology, social media tools, etc.?
  8. Measurement Expertise
    You’ll need someone who can calculate the ROI of your marketing programs.
  9. Cultural Fit
    They need to understand your story and your customer’s stories, in order to craft your story-telling strategy.

The CMI recommends you rank each agency on each item, using a scale of 1 to 5. You can’t expert any one firm to excel in everything, but look for three 5′s at least.

Can Elephants Really Learn to Dance?

Can a huge 150 year old company adapt to the new age of Marketing? Can an elephant learn to dance?

Just got a call from one of the largest and most highly respected insurance firms out there. They asked to meet with the President of Find New Customers.

That was certainly an inbound marketing win. I never called them. They read this blog, visited Find New Customers, downloaded our content, went into our lead nurturing program and was so intrigued, they called us to set a meeting with their top marketing executives.

This begs a question. Can a 150 year old huge insurance firm adapt to the new realities of the 21st century?

The odds are not good. Look at Kodak. Polaroid, Sony, and RIM (maker of Blackberry)- all three suffered from failure to adapt. They were, in effect, elephants that leaver learned to adapt. (Dance) And in BtoB Magazine reports that a study found the use of social media in Financial Services firms is “amateurish.” Big companies typically try and fail to adapt to this new world.

One elephant that did learn to dance was Milliken.  They invested heavily in people and innovation. They own over 2,200 patents today. Innovation became their main corporate value. Their business is booming. Congratulations, Milliken!

Will this prospect turn out to be a Kodak or a Milliken? Time will tell.

P.S. At the Content2Conversion Conference in NYC, I had a long chat with a lady who works for H-P. I heard many of the same issues I hear with many large firms - bureaucracy, politics, lack of innovation, complexity and more. This problem afflicts many large firms.

Our Really Fun Project - Telling Prospective Employers “Thanks, but no thanks”

Find New Customers crossed the Rubicon recently. (According to Wikipedia, “Crossing the Rubicon” means passing the point of no return, and it refers to Julius Caesar and his army crossing a river named Rubicon in 49 AD. As it was illegal to cross the river, it was an act of insurrection.)

We officially drove a stake into job search. It’s dead.

When I founded the lead generation company Find New Customers in 2009, the jury was out. My goal was to either build a business or win a great job. My thought was that by demonstrating deep expertise in B2B marketing, a VP of Marketing or Chief Marketing Officer would be forthcoming.

For a long time, the job was the goal.  But in the long run the business won.

With great new clients like Protegrity, professional writing gigs for Silverpop and like firms, speaking opportunities, hosting two online TV shows (Including my own show, Marketing Made Simple TV), leads from business partners and new prospects coming in almost every week, we neither have the time nor the financial need to work for other firms.

As a result, I had the awesome pleasure of ringing up companies I’ve talked with in past months, like Microstrategy, and asking them to “delete my resume” from their systems. I don’t want to hear about jobs there anymore.

Another one was Rally Development in Colorado. No thank you. But if you need help on a project basis (lead nurturing and scoring, buyer personas, content marketing, etc.), talk to the lead generation company and global marketing firm Find New Customers.

It’s been a long and hard three plus years, but Jeff Ogden, Founder and President of Find New Customers is officially off the job market, hopefully forever.
