Two top marketing folks and good friends, Paul Dunay and Brian Kardon know that there are no certainties in life, so they keep looking for new jobs - even though they have great marketing jobs today.

Paul has been writing a great blog called Marketing Darwinism for years, although Paul is a marketing leader today. In fact, he wrote a great post recently”Why Sustainable Advantage is so 1990.”

Brian Kardon is the Chief Marketing Officer at Lattice Engines and he is always working to spread the word, like media interviews and other programs. He even used to be the Chief Marketing Officer for Eloqua.

If you read the Wall Street Journal every day, like I do, then you know that change is happening all the time. Hewlett-Packard is splitting into two companies.  Eloqua gets acquired by Oracle and Silverpop gets acquired by IBM.

Change happens all the time.  Smart people adapt to this new reality.

In fact, I was working for a company in Atlanta ( I will leave nameless) when I overheard my boss on his mobile phone boasting about me and another employee.  After he hung up, he turned to me and said “Jeff, we’re letting you go.”  I was utterly shocked.

No warning.  No complaints, and nothing.  Just a good-bye  It’s what happens when you are an at-will employee.  You can be fired at any time for any reason.  So you need to be ready to move on at all times.

My advice to you is this. Even if you have a job, act like you might lose it at any time.

Write a blog like this one and engage with media interviews too.

Thanks also to Buyerzone for naming this blog the Best B2B Blog of 2012.

What do you think? We love comments and those who share on social media too.
