Good-Bye, Blackberry. Hello iPhone4S

B2B Demand Generation | Moving to an iPhone

As the President of Find New Customers, I’m a long-time customer of RIM. I’ve had Blackberry after Blackberry for years and years. Even 10 years ago, when I delivered a 242% single year revenue increase on GE for Business Objects - I used a Blackberry.

But with our booming business at Find New Customers and so much revenue coming in now, I’ve decided to move to the new Apple iPhone4S.

I’m excited about Siri and the wonderful features offered by Apple. It was just delivered by Fedex today.

Have any of you made the same move? Why did you switch from a Blackberry to an iPhone and what do you think?

Have a wonderful weekend.

Engage MULTIPLE senses for best marketing results

B2B demand generation | Engage more than one sense for best marketing results

(Give it time to load…..)

For marketing content, you need to engage more than one sense for best results.

  • A beautifully graphic white paper engages sight.
  • A podcast engages hearing.
  • But a YouTube video engages both hearing and sight.
This is why online video is growing quickly.

Unfortunately a Giant Earslide presentation without a narrator does not engage hearing. I believe this strips the presentation of its soul.

Most presentations on Slideshare are silent. Why? Slideshare lets one add a YouTube video or audio track.

I find silent Slideshares very annoying.

Contrasting Silent vs. Sound

I have enormous respect for Charlene Li of the Altimeter Group who created this Slideshare presentation:

Her slides are beautiful and well-organized. She did a fabulous job creating them. One problem, Charlene - they’re BORING. Without sound, they simple do not hold my attention.
.
Contrast a Slideshare with sound, like The Power of B2B Lead Nurturing (from Find New Customers.)
Now we engage sight AND hearing. Which do you like better? Complete the poll and we’ll share the results.
What do you think?

5 Tips for Killer Presentations

B2B Demand Generation | 5 Tips for Killer Presentations

Sorry, dear readers, but I’m on a bit of a rant.

If I see one more boring PowerPoint presentation, I’m going to vomit!

Let’s keep this really simple.  What should be in a PowerPoint presentation?

  1. Few words — if you have more than 8 words on your slide — kill it. Good presentations do NOT work without a presenter.
  2. Pictures — people love images.  Use them to convey your ideas. iStockPhoto is a great and inexpensive source of images.
  3. Story — people respond to stories. It is programmed into them from birth  Tell a story in your presentation.
  4. Simple — less is more.  Few slides.  Few words.
  5. Convey ideas with images -  Convey ideas with images. Speed could be illustrated with a donkey vs. a racehorse.  23% tilted up to the right conveys an increase — without another word. Show - don’t tell.

There is one simple rule to follow:

If the presentation is self-explanatory, it’s too complicated. Great presentations REQUIRE a presenter.

There’s a lot of great presenters out there, but the King of Presentations is the late Steve Jobs of Apple. In honor of his passing, we share his YouTube legacy.

Watch Steve present here.

Learn from the best.  Your audience will thank you.  And I can keep down my food.

Do you have tips to add to 5 Tips for Killer Presentations?

“If marketing to marketers is like cooking for chefs, Jeff Ogden is the Wolfgang Puck of marketing. His insights, instincts and ingenuity about getting customers engaged and keeping them involved are well-known in the industry. And, he’s a heck of a nice guy to boot. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with Jeff now or in the future.” Steve Gershick, 28 Marketing and co-founder of DemandCon - the sales and marketing conference.
